Creole  and Cajun Style Accordion

Level: Beginner and Intermediate.  For ages 16 and older.
No experience necessary
Dates:  Tuesdays, September 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, 2009
Times:   6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Frederick Stage at Nu Nu’s in the Town Market Rural Arts Centre, Intersection of  Highway 31 and Highway 93.   Arnaudville, Louisiana.

Students will learn Creole and Cajun Accordion in a basic and traditional style, enroute to developing a strong foundation.

Materials: Must have an Cajun accordion tuned in the Key of C.   A recording device is recommended.

Teaching Approach:  According to Joe, "Bois Sec always said that everyone can't be the best, but if you play it pretty, people will remember you just as well."

Skills Taught: Posture, Learning the finger board, Developing an ear to learn so that you can pick up new songs.

About Joe Hall: Joe hall is the founder of the band, “Joe Hall and Louisiana Cane Cutters.” He has taught for seven years at the August and Ozark Folk Center Festival.  He has played at Festival Acadian, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and in London, England. 

Joe Hall is an accordion player who learned by watching his grandfather, a Creole accordion player.  He grew up in Eunice, surrounded by performers like Marc Savoy and Bois Sec Ardoin who gave Joe his inspiration and taught him the fine art of playing the accordion.  He was also influenced by greats such as Preston Frank, Nolton Semien, Canray Fontenot, Be Be Carriere and Carlton Frank.  Joe has performed with Mitch Reed who is now a member of the world-famous Beausoeul group.
